FAQ

What is a hackathon?

It is an event where students, both experienced and beginners in programming, gather together and build cool projects with technologies.

Do I need to know how to program?

No, not at all! If you've never programmed before, we'll teach you to write your very first line of code!

What should I bring?

You should bring your laptop (we won't provide computers) & charger, school ID, phone & charger, and power strips (recommended). Food will be provided!

How will the teams work?

You are encouraged to find teams before the event, but don't worry if you don't have one, we will help you find a team at the event! You can also choose to hack alone, but it's always more fun with a team! Teams can have maximum 4 people.

How do I get to MasseyHacks III?

If you are a high school student in the Windsor-Essex area, you should find your own transportation. We have 2 buses from the University of Toronto - St. George, with one bus stopping at the University of Waterloo. Travel reimbursements will be given on a case-by-case basis. Click here to view our Travel Reimbursement Policy

I know a company that wants to sponsor, what should I tell them?

Awesome! Let them know that they can contact us at [email protected]!

How much does it cost?

Nothing! MasseyHacks is completely free to everyone attending! Oh, yeah, we forgot to mention FREE FOOD AND SWAG!

How do I know if I got accepted?

We will be doing 4 rounds of acceptances every Sunday starting March 5. To be eligible for that round, you must submit your application before 11:59 the Saturday before. If you do not get accepted in the round, you do not need to re-apply, your application moves to the next round. If accepted, we will email you with details.

Code of Conduct?

Yes, of course! All hackers must abide to the MLH Code of Conduct found here.

What if one of my questions isn't on here?

Shoot an email to [email protected] and we'll get back to you as soon as we can!
